The story takes place in 1909, when a coal mine in Yorkshire, England, had been using pit horses to transport coal for many years. When they are replaced by machines that can speed up production and increase profits, three children - Dave (played by Andrew Harrison), Tommy (played by Bengi Borga), and Alice (played by Chloe Franks) - learn that these ponies will be slaughtered, so they work together to plan to steal them and set them free.
