剧情概要：
Guy Crouchback was the heir to a declining British Roman Catholic family. He returned to England from Italy at the beginning of World War II and joined the Royal Halbervillian Legion with various strange people. Despite attempting to reconcile with his lost wife Virginia, he ultimately failed. After being related to the death of a colleague, he was sent to an island in Scotland to train an assault brigade, and eventually went to Crete to participate in the evacuation. He fled to Egypt with his colleagues Ludovich and Ive Claire. He returned to England with the help of Mrs. Stitch, possibly to prevent him from calling Claire a deserter. Guy got married to Virginia for the second time, and at this time she had a son with her ex lover Tremer. When Guy spent a confusing time with guerrillas in Yugoslavia, Virginia and Guy's uncle Peregrin were killed by graffiti bombs. Guy returned to the UK after joining a charity organization and eventually remarried.
